ILLUSTRATION
I have always found illustration to be a great way to keep myself afloat within my own being. It is something I have always been passionate about, and I have always admired how people could create such treasures, things I could only dream of creating myself.
As a child, I knew I would never reach the level or potential of certain people, that I would never even come close to their skill.
And yet I kept pushing myself relentlessly—as I still do today, not only with illustration—trying to reach their level, to think differently, and perhaps even surpass them.
Then, at some point, I gave up. I don't really remember why, but for a while—for years, even—although I continued to draw, I felt as though I had a well to stay in, despite always trying to improve.
I kept demanding more and more from myself, trying to achieve results that perhaps were never truly attainable. And yet I persisted during those few moments when I actually felt like drawing, always ending up rather disappointed that I had even bothered trying.
Since I started at the Academy, I have picked up this passion again and tried to find a different way of doing things: making them more impactful, making them speak about me rather than imitate others.
I started wondering what would happen if I mixed underground graphic design with illustration, and what I might be able to bring out of it. And so I discovered a new, personal way of making my illustrations more enjoyable, playing with elements that perhaps didn't even make sense, but that I wanted to make different from everything else, to make them stand out, at least a little.
